TXA Dark Spot Cream, tranexamic acid and niacinamide 3.5% for sun spots, melasma and marks

$36.00 $49.00 SAVE $13.00

Sun spots, melasma and marks left by breakouts share one origin: too much melanin in one place. TXA Dark Spot Cream is the cream step of a pigment routine. Tranexamic acid 3.5 percent dampens the signal that makes melanocytes produce more pigment in sun and heat, and niacinamide 3.5 percent slows the transfer of pigment up to the surface. The concentrations are printed on the tube. A patented tranexamic acid peptide keeps the acid stable in the cream, glutathione supports as an antioxidant, and shea butter, ceramide NP and ectoin make it a real cream that holds moisture in. No added fragrance, and 0.00 in a 24-hour patch test. Use as the last step morning and night, with sunscreen by day. Tone evens first, spots fade second, allow 8 to 12 weeks. 50 g.

Is this cream right for my skin?

Sun spots, melasma and post-breakout marks have different causes. Find out whether the cream is right for your concern, in 30 seconds.

Find your skin solution

Choose your skin concern and we will show how the cream targets it.

Skin concern

Sun spots and age spots

Tranexamic acid switches off the signal that makes melanocytes produce more pigment after sun and heat, and niacinamide slows the pigment that still forms. Last step morning and night, sunscreen by day.

Melasma after pregnancy or the pill

Tranexamic acid is the ingredient dermatologists use for melasma. In a study of 50 women, 3 percent matched hydroquinone over 12 weeks. Allow three to six months and be strict with sunscreen.

THIS CREAM WAS MADE FOR YOU →

Red-brown marks left by breakouts

Marks left by inflammation are driven by the same plasmin signal tranexamic acid blocks. The cream contains no acids and fits as the last step of an acne routine, nights only if your skin is oily.

THIS CREAM WAS MADE FOR YOU →

Patchy, dull skin tone

Niacinamide 3.5 percent evens the tone within a few weeks, often before the spots themselves change. It is the first thing most people notice.

THIS CREAM WAS MADE FOR YOU →

Spots and dryness together

Shea butter, ceramide NP and ectoin make this a real cream that holds moisture overnight, so the pigment care does not dry the skin out. Very dry skin in winter can layer a richer night cream on top.

THIS CREAM WAS MADE FOR YOU →

Sensitive skin that wants rid of spots

No added fragrance and 0.00 in a 24-hour patch test. Still patch test behind the ear, start once a day and stop if it stings.

YOUR CONCERNS, ANSWERED

Which skin problems does it address?

The cream is formulated for skin with dark spots: sun spots, melasma, post-breakout marks and an uneven tone.

HOW WE SOLVE IT

The signal is switched off where the spots form.

Tranexamic acid blocks plasmin, the signal that makes melanocytes produce more pigment after sun and heat. Visible after eight to twelve weeks of daily use.

THREE WAYS THE CREAM EVENS SKIN TONE

Dark spots form when melanocytes get the signal to make more melanin, after sun, heat, hormones or inflammation. Bleaching the surface does not help while the signal continues.

Tranexamic acid blocks plasmin in the outer skin, one of the strongest signals to the melanocytes. The cream contains 3.5 percent, printed on the tube.

3 percent tranexamic acid over 12 weeks gave the same improvement in melasma as hydroquinone, with fewer side effects. Ebrahimi and Naeini 2014.

HOW THE FORMULA WORKS

The melanin that still forms is carried up to the surface in small packets, melanosomes. There it shows as spots and uneven tone.

Niacinamide inhibits the transfer of melanosomes to skin cells, so tone evens out within a few weeks. The cream contains 3.5 percent, and niacinamide is the ingredient behind the cream's functional whitening status in Korea.

WEEKS TO REDUCED PIGMENTATION IN THE 5% STUDY

Niacinamide reduced hyperpigmentation and increased skin lightness compared with vehicle. Hakozaki et al. 2002.

HOW THE FORMULA WORKS

Pigment care that dries the skin rarely gets finished. And without sunscreen the spots come back whatever the cream.

Shea butter, ceramide NP and ectoin make the cream the last step that holds moisture in. A pea-sized amount morning and night, SPF 30 every morning, and patience for twelve weeks.

HOW THE FORMULA WORKS

TXA Dark Spot Cream, key ingredients

Every ingredient has a purpose

Formulated around tranexamic acid and niacinamide, with a patented tranexamic acid peptide, glutathione, ceramide NP and ectoin, for skin with dark spots.

Tranexamic Acid, 3.5 percent. Blocks plasmin in the outer skin, the signal that makes melanocytes produce more pigment in sun, heat and inflammation. In studies, 2 to 3 percent over 12 weeks matched hydroquinone on melasma.

Benefits

  • Lighter dark spots
  • Dampens new spots
  • Works on melasma

Niacinamide, 3.5 percent. Vitamin B3 that reduces the transfer of melanin to skin cells, so tone evens out. Notified as a functional whitening ingredient in Korea.

Benefits

  • More even tone
  • Strengthens the barrier
  • Calms redness

A patented peptide bound to tranexamic acid (patent 10-1848887) that keeps the acid stable in the cream. The maker's raw-material data show tyrosinase inhibition.

Benefits

  • Stable tranexamic acid
  • Patented raw material
  • Supports the main active

The body's own antioxidant. A 2 percent lotion lowered the melanin index in a study of 30 women over 10 weeks. The amount in the cream is not published, so it counts as support, not as a main active.

Benefits

  • Antioxidant
  • Supports radiance
  • Protects against free radicals

The skin's own barrier lipid. With shea butter and fatty alcohols it makes this a real cream that holds moisture overnight.

Benefits

  • Builds the barrier
  • Holds moisture in
  • Softer skin

A protective molecule from salt-tolerant bacteria that binds water around skin cells and protects against dryness and external stress.

Benefits

  • Binds moisture
  • Protects against stress
  • Calms sensitive skin

Korean Essence

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before you start with Korean Essence TXA Dark Spot Cream.

What is tranexamic acid? +

Tranexamic acid is a synthetic amino acid that dermatologists use for melasma. On the skin it blocks plasmin, a signal in the outer skin that makes melanocytes produce more pigment in sun, heat and inflammation. In studies, 2 to 3 percent over 12 weeks matched hydroquinone with fewer side effects. The cream contains 3.5 percent.

When will I see results? +

Tone usually looks more even after two to four weeks. Sun spots and post-breakout marks are visibly lighter after eight weeks of morning and night use, and the tranexamic acid studies run twelve weeks. Melasma is more stubborn and can take three to six months. Results vary, and daily sunscreen is decisive.

How do I use the cream? +

As the last step of the routine, after toner and serum, morning and night. Take a pea-sized amount, press it over the whole face and add a little extra on the spots. In the morning follow with sunscreen SPF 30 or higher. Oily skin can settle for evenings and sunscreen alone by day.

White powder forms at the nozzle, is the cream faulty? +

No. The cream is made from compressed powdered tranexamic acid, and when the contents meet air the acid can crystallise at the nozzle. It is harmless and does not affect quality. Wipe the nozzle and close the cap firmly after each use.

Is it suitable for sensitive skin? +

The cream has no added fragrance and scored 0.00 in a 24-hour human patch test in 2021, per the manufacturer. That is a single test, so still patch test behind the ear for two days the first time, and start once a day if your skin is sensitive. Stop if it stings.

Can I use it while pregnant or breastfeeding? +

There are no studies of tranexamic acid on the skin during pregnancy, and the cream contains no retinoids or acids that are advised against. Ask your midwife before you start, and avoid skin the baby touches while feeding.

Can I combine it with retinol, acids or vitamin C? +

Yes. The cream contains neither retinoids nor exfoliating acids and goes last in the routine, over serums with vitamin C, niacinamide or retinol. If you combine it with strong actives, start with the cream once a day.

How long does a tube last? +

A 50 g tube lasts about eight to ten weeks with a pea-sized amount morning and night, a full course.

Does the cream contain hydroquinone, acids or retinoids? +

No. The cream contains neither hydroquinone, retinoids nor exfoliating acids. The actives against spots are tranexamic acid and niacinamide, 3.5 percent each, with a patented tranexamic acid peptide and glutathione in support.
